Grand in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas, built in 1895. George Barber of Knoxville, Tennessee, is named as architect and C. J. It has the style's typical irregular massing, steep roof, corner tower and classical porch supports. It was also associated with local bankers and a merchant.","narrative":"This two-story frame house at 209 N. Grand in Waxahachie was built in 1895 in the Queen Anne style. The design is credited to George Barber of Knoxville, Tennessee, with C. J. Griggs as contractor. The asymmetrical house has weatherboard siding and imbricated shingles, a hip roof with gables, wood double-hung windows, and a double-door entrance with transom and sidelights. A multi-bay porch with Doric columns wraps the north and east sides. Other Queen Anne features include a steeply pitched roof, a polygonal corner tower, a recessed second-story porch, varied sheathing materials and finials along the roofline. It was built for H. W. Trippet, president of Waxahachie National Bank, and later passed to R. W. Getzendaner, a bank vice-president who donated land for Getzendaner Park. Merchant W. E. Shive bought it in 1930. Although many similar houses were built locally, this one is considered among the best. It remains residential and is in fair condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"George Barber of Knoxville, Tenn.; contractor C. J.
