W. Walston for Roy Connally.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is architecturally significant as a well-executed, intact example of the early phase of bungalow building in Waxahachie. Bungalows were built there in great variety from about 1910 to 1930. The reviewer called it a locally significant early example of the Bungalow style that retains a high degree of integrity.","narrative":"Built in 1911, this one-story frame house at 205 East University in Waxahachie is an early example of the bungalow style. Roy Connally hired contractor W. W. Walston to build it in a residential area northwest of the central business district and south of the old Trinity University campus. Connally served as secretary of the Retail Merchants Association and Chamber of Commerce and lived in the house into the 1950s. The house has a gable roof with exposed rafter ends, wood double-hung windows, a four-bay porch with shingled box supports, and brick chimneys. Its walls mix siding and imbricated shingles, and its horizontal massing, multiple roof planes and wide overhanging eaves are typical bungalow traits. Bungalows were built in large numbers and great variety in Waxahachie between about 1910 and 1930. This house was listed as a well-executed, intact example of the early phase of that building tradition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"W. W.
