It has weatherboard siding, a hip roof with gables, stick brackets and one-over-one double-hung windows. A seven-bay porch with fluted Ionic columns and wood balusters wraps around the south and east sides. Two-story entrance porticoes topped with pedimented gables were enclosed at the second story as screened sleeping porches, and corner pilasters and classical window surrounds add detail. The house is considered a fine example of the Neoclassical Revival style, which was moderately popular in Ennis between about 1900 and 1910. Its giant order and large consoles reflect how the style was built throughout Texas. It was the home of Isaac R. Allen, co-owner of Allen & Kendall Furniture Store. The inventory records the property as in good condition and still used as a residence. It is part of a group of Ennis historic resources.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Fred Lawson, builder","architectural_style":"Neoclassical Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition is described as good; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:20.961441-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/40/9690/40969040/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86002387.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002387/12321abee5-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002387/12321abee5-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:I.R._Allen_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:I.R._Allen_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969040","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000579"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/ellis-county/allen-i-r-house-86002387/"}
