These houses served the transient labor force tied to the railroad and local industry. All others have been demolished, burned or moved away.","narrative":"Built in 1928 at 123 North Wetherbee, the Buena Vista Hotel is a two-story rooming house of brick-veneered tile with a metal-tile roof and exposed rafters. D.D. and Vista Duncan had it built to meet local housing needs, and local contractor E.D. Jones completed it for $9,500. It held 21 rooms and two baths, arranged along two long central hallways that show on the front facade as central doors. Its main feature is a porch with four large brick pedestals and square wooden posts, topped by a flat roof that forms a second-floor deck with a wrought-iron railing. Between 1900 and 1930, Stamford had many small family-run rooming houses serving railroad workers and laborers in local industry. The others have all been demolished, burned or moved, leaving this as the only surviving example. It was recognized at the local level for its role in the town's commerce, and its condition is described as unaltered and good.","period_of_significance":"1928","architect_builder":"E.D.
