Builder is recorded as Mr. Bond of Elberton.","why_significant":"The house is considered architecturally significant as an intact, highly detailed Victorian-eclectic residence of the 1890s, retaining varied millwork and original fixtures inside and out. It is also tied to T. W. Teasley, an early Hartwell businessman who was a merchant, lawyer, private banker, planter and mayor.","narrative":"Built around 1892 on Howell Street, then at the western edge of Hartwell, this one-story frame cottage was the home of Thomas William Teasley and his family. Two gabled bays project from the front, a shed-roofed porch with turned posts and cutwork brackets spans the facade, and a double-door entrance with a transom sits between the bays. Inside, the original flooring, wainscoting, mantels and wallcovering survive. Two historic outbuildings, a brick root cellar and an open well shed, remain on the lot, along with mature trees and a pecan grove. Teasley ran a general mercantile store on the town square and also worked as a lawyer, private banker and planter, and he served as mayor from 1898 to 1900. Six children were raised here, and three sons became Hartwell businessmen. The property is recognized for its well-preserved Victorian-eclectic millwork and for its link to a prominent local commercial figure.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Mr. Bond, Elberton, Georgia","architectural_style":"Victorian-eclectic","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition; used as a rental residence, with the rear adapted as a small apartment whose tenant serves as caretaker.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.177453-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/86002055.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002055/d5d151b719-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002055/d5d151b719-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Upstateherd","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thomas_William_Teasley_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Upstateherd</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thomas_William_Teasley_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206284","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134379539"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/hart-county/teasley-thomas-william-house-86002055/"}
