The one-story frame house dates from about 1892 and was altered in the 1920s and 1931.","why_significant":"The house shows two distinct periods and styles, a Victorian-eclectic building with a late 1920s Bungalow porch and Craftsman interior features. Its outbuildings are the most intact group of historic agricultural auxiliary buildings in the Hartwell survey area. It is also the only complete city farmstead in Hartwell and is tied to merchant-farmer I. P. Vickery.","narrative":"This farmstead on the northern edge of Hartwell, Georgia, centers on a one-story frame house built about 1892 on land the McMullan family farmed in the late 19th century. The house has a high hipped roof with projecting gables and original metal shingles. In the late 1920s a Bungalow-style porch and Craftsman interior features were added to the earlier Victorian-eclectic design. Behind the house are two barns, a well house and a garage, with open farmland beyond. Isham P. Vickery, a local merchant who ran a hardware store and a farm implement company downtown, bought the property in 1926 and raised cotton and wheat and pastured cows and sheep. He added the large barn and garage in 1931. The property was recognized for its two-stage architecture, for having the most intact set of historic farm outbuildings in the Hartwell survey area, and for illustrating the overlap of farming and merchant work in a small Georgia town.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Victorian-eclectic with Craftsman-inspired detailing and Craftsman-style (Bungalow) porch","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"In good condition and in use as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.500788-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/86002037.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002037/f8bfda6059-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002037/f8bfda6059-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Upstateherd","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McMullan-Vickery_Farm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Upstateherd</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McMullan-Vickery_Farm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206268","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134373725"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/hart-county/mcmullan-vickery-farm-86002037/"}
