It is also tied to the Temple family of builders, who worked on other buildings in the Hartwell area. By about 1910 it was a good local example of Victorian-eclectic design.","narrative":"Standing on a triangular lot where two streets meet in Hartwell, this one and one-half story frame house grew from a two-room dwelling built about 1884 by J. C. Horton, reportedly as a rental. In 1909 William Madison Vickery, a farmer and cattleman, bought the property and hired the Temple family to remodel it. Five rooms were added to the original two, and later work added another room and an outbuilding, probably the present garage. The result is an eight-room house with a steep pyramidal roof, multiple projecting gables, gabled dormers and a shed-roofed porch wrapping three sides, trimmed with turned posts and openwork brackets. Inside, a triangular entrance hall opens into the two earliest rooms. The house was listed for its architecture, as a good local example of Victorian-eclectic design, and for its link to the Temple family of builders, who worked on other structures in the area. It remains a residence in good condition, with pecan trees to the west.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Original: unknown; additions: Temple family","architectural_style":"Victorian-eclectic","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"In good condition and in use as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.284441-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/86002024.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002024/e4db61e2c1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002024/e4db61e2c1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Upstateherd","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Horton-Vickery_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Upstateherd</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Horton-Vickery_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206256","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134373660"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/hart-county/horton-vickery-house-86002024/"}
