It is also a well-preserved example of a vernacular Georgian farmhouse (Criterion C), with later Greek Revival features added around the 1850s.","narrative":"Standing at 125 Jackson Street in Newton Centre, this farmhouse is a traditional two-and-a-half-story, gable-roofed dwelling with a five-bay facade, a central hall plan with two rooms per floor, and two interior ridge chimneys. Records show Abraham Jackson mortgaged a house and barn here in 1768, and the property was sold in 1782 to Aaron Richards, a carpenter from Dedham, who may have built the present house on the earlier foundations. One expert has suggested a date of about 1790. Greek Revival touches, including wide panelled corner boards and a Doric-porticoed entrance, were probably added in an 1850s remodelling. After Richards died in 1823, the farm passed to Ephraim Jackson Jr., and it was subdivided in 1860. The Boston Children's Aid Society occupied the house by 1874. It was listed as one of the earliest surviving structures in Newton Centre and as a well-preserved Georgian farmhouse. It remains a dwelling in excellent condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; Aaron Richards, a carpenter, possibly built the present house","architectural_style":"Vernacular Georgian (with Greek Revival modifications)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Condition listed as excellent; present use is a dwelling, the same as its original use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.480112-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/83/7920/63792083/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/86001841.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001841/3beed71834-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001841/3beed71834-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NewtonMA_JacksonHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NewtonMA_JacksonHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792083","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson_House_(Newton,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6117170"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/jackson-house-86001841/"}
