It was also among the first three houses built on subdivisions of the George Lord estate.","narrative":"Built in 1879 at 47 Sargent Street in Newton Corner, this large house is a fine example of the Stick Style. It has tall, vertical proportions, steeply pitched roofs and sharp angular gables, with gables and dormers of varied sizes producing an irregular roofline. The center entrance is flanked by gabled pavilions and set within a Tudor-inspired porch with heavy posts and pointed arches. Details include leaded glass sidelights, patterned shingles, applied wooden stickwork and a red and black patterned slate roof. A very large carriage house extends the architectural statement of the main house. The architect is unknown, though the design is described as architect-designed. The house was one of three on Sargent Street, between Park Street and Waverly Avenue, built on subdivisions of the estate of George Lord, who made a fortune in shipping, insurance and railroad directorship. An early occupant was Daniel D. Dewey, a Boston wool dealer. The house was listed for its architectural quality.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Stick Style","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is a dwelling; condition is described as very good, with no major alterations and not moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.250763-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/82/7912/63791282/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/86001831.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001831/172f1c48b7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001831/172f1c48b7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Thomas Kelley from Boston, MA","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_47_Sargent_St.,_Newton,_Massachusetts.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Kelley from Boston, MA</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_47_Sargent_St.,_Newton,_Massachusetts.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791282","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_47_Sargent_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914343"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-47-sargent-street-86001831/"}
