It is also called an excellent, well-detailed example of mainstream Greek Revival design, and one of Auburndale's few examples of that style.","narrative":"Built around 1845 in the Auburndale section of Newton, this two and one-half story clapboard house is among the village's earliest suburban homes. It predates or coincides with the 1847 subdivision of the area by the North Auburn Dale Land Company. The gable roof runs parallel to the street and carries a pair of pedimented dormers. A one-story portico wraps the south and east sides, and the wide entablature and panelled corner pilasters reflect the Greek Revival style. An exterior chimney on the south side is flanked by full-length windows, and double doors open within a full-height polygonal bay. Auburndale has few Greek Revival buildings, so the house stands out as a well-detailed example of the mainstream style. In 1870 it was bought by William H. Blood, a Boston dry goods merchant. His son, Charles W. Blood, later wrote a history of Auburndale in the early twentieth century. The house remains a dwelling in very good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a dwelling; condition described as very good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.962013-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/11/7917/63791711/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/86001829.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001829/2d060082d2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001829/2d060082d2-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NewtonMA_HouseAt31WoodbineStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NewtonMA_HouseAt31WoodbineStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791711","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_31_Woodbine_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914236"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-31-woodbine-street-86001829/"}
