Both are now separate residences.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the complex is a rare surviving 18th-century farmhouse and barn group in Newton. It is also tied to the Fuller family, one of the town's founding families, and to Capt. Edward Fuller, who held town offices and served in the Revolution. It is cited under criteria B and C.","narrative":"Two residences on North Street in Newtonville began as a single farm. The farmhouse was probably built around 1775 by Capt. Edward Fuller, whose family had lived in Newton since 1644, when John Fuller settled the original farm. The house was first one and a half stories and was later raised to two and a half, probably in the 1830s or 1840s. Its front door surround, thought to date from 1780, has a cornice on unusual brackets with battered pilasters. The nearby barn, built about 1800, was a side-entry English type barn and was converted to a house in 1950. It keeps a late 19th-century cupola and weathervane. Fuller held town posts including surveyor of highways, tithingman and warden, helped build the Waltham Bridge in 1762, and served in the Revolution in New York in 1777. The complex is valued as a rare surviving 18th-century farm group and for its link to a founding family.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built by Capt.
