It is historically significant for its association with Zadock Pratt, the tanning industrialist, banker, benefactor and congressman who founded Prattsville. It is the only known resource directly tied to Pratt and a prominent local landmark.","narrative":"Zadock Pratt's mansion on Main Street in Prattsville, New York, began in 1828 as a two-story, five-bay Federal style frame house designed and built by David Wood of Catskill. Around 1856 it was enlarged with asymmetrical wings, a bracketed portico, broad eaves and cross gables, and an 1843 Greek Revival bank building was attached to its west side. A former carriage house was moved and joined to the rear. Pratt founded the village after buying forested land in 1824, building a large tannery, and straightening the road into a wide main street. He later became a banker, philanthropist and congressman. The house is described as the only known resource directly associated with him and as the largest and most distinguished building in the hamlet. After use as apartments in the 1920s, it was acquired in 1959 by descendants of Pratt's daughter and restored in the 1970s as a museum about the Pratt family, Prattsville and regional tanning.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"David Wood","architectural_style":"Federal, remodelled in the Picturesque/Victorian taste; attached 1843 Greek Revival bank wing","criteria":[],"status_note":"Operating as a house museum; restored in the mid-1970s to recreate its mid-nineteenth century appearance; condition marked good and occupied.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.70143-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/86001654.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001654/0b72ca2c36-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001654/0b72ca2c36-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Robert Drake","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Zadock_Pratt_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Drake</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Zadock_Pratt_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318029","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zadock_Pratt_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8064168"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/greene-county/pratt-zadock-house-86001654/"}
