It is historically significant as an example of the Lockland industrial-management connection and the early phase of Cincinnati commuting. Wyoming developed as a bedroom community for business managers and professionals.","narrative":"Set on a sloping 1.2-acre lot along wooded Reily Road in Wyoming, Ohio, this two-story frame house began as a five-bay Victorian Italianate residence around 1865. A rear section was added about 1870-75, and in 1885 James Hurin, president of West End Mills, a Cincinnati flour firm, added a Second Empire tower and dormers. The house has weatherboard walls, a hipped slate roof, a veranda with heavy pillars and pierced brackets, and an Eastlake-style paneled front door. Later changes were minor, including a south rear addition about 1930, a sleeping porch around 1950 and a greenhouse in 1980. Its first owner, Luethstrom, was a partner in a grain and flour commission firm. The house reflects Wyoming's role as a bedroom community for Lockland and Cincinnati business managers, whose estates lined Springfield Pike and the lanes leading up to the bluff above the Mill Creek Valley. Hurin and associates subdivided the surrounding land.","period_of_significance":"1865 and 1885","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Victorian Italianate/Second Empire","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Listed as a private residence in use, with interior condition excellent and exterior condition good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.853174-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86001635.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001635/bc9c8202f6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001635/bc9c8202f6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:LuethstromHurinHouseLR.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:LuethstromHurinHouseLR.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986428","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luethstrom%E2%80%93Hurin_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6699593"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/luethstrom-hurin-house-86001635/"}
