It is also significant for Josiah Kirby's barrel bung machine inventions and his ties to Cincinnati industry. Politically, it was the home of Josiah M. Kirby, Mayor of Wyoming from 1907 to 1910.","narrative":"Built around 1890 at 65 Oliver Road in Wyoming, Ohio, this two-and-a-half-story house combines Queen Anne form with Shingle Style materials and neo-classical detail. Its facade has a gable pavilion with a sun porch, an octagonal tower, a veranda with paired columns, and a porte-cochere. Art glass windows appear throughout, including a large semicircular stair window. Slate roofing, dentiled cornices and four large chimneys complete the exterior, which stands almost perfectly preserved inside and out. The house was built when Wyoming was growing as a commuter suburb for Cincinnati's industrial leaders. Josiah Kirby invented machinery for making barrel bungs, worked as an executive for two railroads, presided over the Cincinnati Board of Trade, and served a term in the state legislature. His son, Josiah M. Kirby, lived here as a boy and later as Mayor of Wyoming from 1907 to 1910, when he promoted the new city hall, fire station and a commercial district on Wyoming Avenue.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne, Shingle Style","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Listed as in residential use, with interior and exterior condition both described as excellent.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:15.245242-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86001634.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001634/0c209fc030-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001634/0c209fc030-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JosiahKirbyHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Photo by Greg Hume (Greg5030)</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JosiahKirbyHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986416","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josiah_Kirby_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6290534"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/kirby-josiah-house-86001634/"}
