A review of the Illinois Rural Survey suggests it is one of only two brick two-story farmhouses of this style and period left in the county. It was also owned from 1868 to 1881 by Moses K. Anderson, who served as State Adjutant General.","narrative":"Built around 1832 west of Springfield, this two-story farmhouse sits at the edge of a prairie, facing south, with land falling away behind it toward tree-lined watercourses leading to the Sangamon River. Its walls are soft orange brick made on the property, and its L-shaped plan includes a front wing and a rear ell with a two-story recessed veranda. Greek Revival touches include a finely detailed doorway with sidelights and a transom broken by engaged piers, shallow pediment lintels over the windows, and returned gables. Inside are three shallow fireplaces, pine woodwork and horsehair plaster. A survey of rural properties suggests it is one of only two brick farmhouses of its style and age remaining in Sangamon County. Early owners included Charles Broadwell, Jacob Tiger and, from 1868 to 1881, Moses K. Anderson, a longtime State Adjutant General and large landowner. The house has changed little in about 150 years and now serves as an antique shop.","period_of_significance":"1832-1900","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in good condition and largely unchanged; presently used as an antique shop.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:35.223364-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/20/8940/28894020/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/86001316.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28894020","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger-Anderson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q20710173"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/sangamon-county/tiger-anderson-house-86001316/"}
