Its elaborate Eastlake porch is its most distinguished feature. It also recalls the period when North Peterboro Street was one of the village's most fashionable residential streets.","narrative":"This large two-story frame house on North Peterboro Street in Canastota was built in the 1870s in an eclectic Victorian manner that blends Queen Anne, Eastlake and Stick style elements. It is sheathed in clapboard and topped by a multi-gabled roof with cross gables, bargeboards, pendants and exposed rafters. Its asymmetrical massing, two-story projecting bay windows and one-over-one sash windows add to the picturesque effect. The most notable feature is the sweeping Eastlake porch, with a spindle frieze, turned posts, a latticed foundation and a polygonal corner portico. Inside, the room layout survives, along with an Eastlake stair balustrade and Colonial Revival parlor details. A turn-of-the-century carriage house with half-timbered doors stands behind the house. The neighborhood was once among the village's most fashionable, but many nearby houses have been altered or lost. This house remains a rare, largely intact example of high-style late-nineteenth century architecture in that part of Canastota. The Russel family lived there during the first half of the twentieth century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Eclectic late Victorian combination of Queen Anne, Eastlake and Stick style attributes","criteria":[],"status_note":"Private residence in good condition, still used as a residence; the carriage house is a contributing building.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.860141-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/86001301.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313474","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_328_North_Peterboro_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14706437"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/madison-county/house-at-328-north-peterboro-street-86001301/"}
