It also represents the forms and detailing common to small turn-of-the-century railroad stations. It is the only significant structure left from the commercial processing of cheese in Aurora.","narrative":"Built in 1904 by the Erie Railroad, this small combination station at 13 New Hudson Road in Aurora, Ohio, once shipped some four million pounds of cheese a year from its freight area. Its rectangular frame, hipped roof and seven-foot overhangs on chamfered timber brackets reflect the stick style, with lapped siding, stucco at the top of the walls and V-groove paneling inside. The station also served passengers heading to resorts such as the lake at Pond Station and commuters bound for Cleveland until the 1960s, when Conrail took over and the building decayed. Conrail tried to demolish it in 1982, but local pressure stopped the plan and the station and its 1.35-acre lot were separated from the right-of-way. In 1984 the exterior was restored and the interior converted to offices that follow the original detailing. It is the last major structure tied to Aurora's cheese trade.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"Unknown; built by the Erie Railroad","architectural_style":"Stick style","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Exterior restored and interior renovated into offices in 1984; the form lists the property as occupied and in excellent condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.105951-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86001131.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001131/c5e99ef2f8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86001131/c5e99ef2f8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Adam Moss","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aurora_Station.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Adam Moss</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aurora_Station.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71990993","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_station_(Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4822466"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/portage-county/aurora-train-station-86001131/"}
