University in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas, built in 1888 for merchant M. B. Lockett.","why_significant":"The house is considered a good example of a late nineteenth-century vernacular L-plan dwelling. It was built for M. B. Lockett, one of Georgetown's most prosperous merchants, who lived there until his death in 1936. Reviewer comments show the architecture argument was accepted, while the association with Lockett was added through amendments.","narrative":"Built in 1888 at 811 E. University in Georgetown, this two-story wood frame house follows a modified L plan and remains a residence. It has weatherboard siding, an intersecting gable roof, box eaves, three interior brick chimneys with corbeled caps, and wood sash windows. A one-story five-bay porch on the south side has chamfered posts with molded caps and a slat and jigsawn balustrade. A one-story window bay on the east side has a bell-cast hip roof, a paneled base and jigsawn trim. Its condition is described as excellent, and a rear addition and a modern garage are noted. The house was built for M. B. Lockett, a prosperous merchant who lived there until his death in 1936. He ran a dry goods store at the northwest corner of the square and in 1896 built a Queen Anne style commercial building at 119 W. 7th Street. The house was recognized as a good example of late nineteenth-century vernacular L-plan architecture and for its link to Lockett.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Vernacular L plan","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; condition is described as excellent, with a rear addition and a modern garage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.885441-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/73/9708/40970873/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86000981.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86000981/135ac6a163-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86000981/135ac6a163-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 4.0","author":"Larry D.
