The Greek Revival office is called one of the best-detailed buildings of that style in the county. The property is also associated with Dr. Henry D. Lucas, who practiced medicine there until 1893.","narrative":"On Center Street, the main street of Black Creek, stands a two-part property made up of a Victorian cottage and a small Greek Revival doctor's office. The cottage, a three-bay, single-pile frame house with a steep gable roof, exposed-face end chimneys and sawn-work porch ornament, was probably built soon after 1883, when the lot was bought by Monticello Lucas. The attached office dates to about 1850 and has paired trabeated doors, double transoms, sidelights and distinctive window surrounds. It may have been moved to the site. Dr. Henry D. Lucas, a Confederate veteran who trained as a physician, practiced in Wilson County until 1893, when he moved his family to Charlotte. The house later passed through several owners and was used as rental property. It is considered one of the oldest homes in Black Creek, which was incorporated in 1870, and is a representative example of a common local house type.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival (doctor's office) and Victorian cottage (residence)","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Used as rental property and maintained in good order by its owners, according to the form.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:49.916704-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/41/7187/47718741/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/86000771.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47718741","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/wilson-county/lucas-dr-h-d-house-86000771/"}
