This is an unusual pairing, since the style is usually found there on three-bay houses. It retains integrity of setting, design, location, materials, workmanship and feeling.","narrative":"Set back behind a screen of trees and facing a semi-circular driveway on the south side of Maple Street in Sherborn, this 2½-story frame house dates from roughly 1835 to 1845. It rests on a granite block foundation under a gable roof and is clad in clapboard. Its five-bay facade is centered on an open porch with square Doric posts, a heavy entablature and an overhanging cornice, and the front door has narrow multipane sidelights. Wide Doric corner and fascia boards define its edges. The house combines an older five-bay form with the Greek Revival style, which in Sherborn is usually found on three-bay dwellings. It first appears on a map of about 1855-1860 labeled N. Clark, for Nathaniel Fry Clark, who married in 1844 and may have built it then. Isaiah M. Northrup, a farmer, later bought it. Cranberries were grown in the lowlands behind the house during the 19th century. The property retains much of its rural setting and mid-19th-century landscape elements.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the form lists no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.683778-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/82/7908/63790882/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/86000497.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86000497/da11d2329c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86000497/da11d2329c-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clark-Northrup_House_-_Sherborn,_Massachusetts_-_DSC02951.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clark-Northrup_House_-_Sherborn,_Massachusetts_-_DSC02951.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790882","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark%E2%80%93Northrup_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5127131"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/clark-northrup-house-86000497/"}
