The house was built in 1879 and extensively remodeled by Belford Lumber Co. in 1912, and it has been virtually unaltered since that remodeling. It is also a good example of vernacular design with some classical detailing within a neighborhood of mostly turn-of-the-century dwellings.","narrative":"Miller-Ellyson House is a two-story frame dwelling at 303 E. 9th Street in Georgetown, Texas, in a residential area southeast of the central business district where most nearby homes date from the turn of the century. The house was originally built in 1879 and was substantially remodeled in 1912 by Belford Lumber Co. It has a Georgian plan, beveled wood siding, a hip roof with metal ridge cresting, and two interior brick chimneys with corbeled caps. A one-story porch with Doric columns and a turned wood balustrade wraps the south and east sides. The five-bay symmetrical facade, a three-sided bay on the west side, and beveled glass in the doors add to its character. Later one-story additions sit at the rear and east. It was recognized primarily for its architecture, a vernacular design with classical detailing, and for remaining virtually unaltered since the 1912 remodeling. It is still used as a residence and is in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Belford Lumber Co.
