S. Griffith's most important works, and the only known surviving example of his style. It is also significant for its association with W. K. Makemson, a Williamson County sheriff, district attorney, political candidate, businessman and newspaperman.","narrative":"Built in 1901 at 1002 Ash Street in Georgetown, this two-and-a-half-story wood-frame house follows the Queen Anne style. It has an asymmetrical plan, weatherboard siding, a hip roof with gables, interior brick chimneys with corbeled caps, and double-hung wood windows. A small porch on the east front has Doric columns grouped in threes and molded consoles under the overhangs. Gable ends are covered with imbricated shingles. Rear additions and a small detached frame garage were added later. The house was built by the Griffith Lumber Co. and is described as one of lumberman C. S. Griffith's most important works, and the only known surviving example of his style. It was the home of W. K. Makemson, an attorney who served as Williamson County sheriff in 1863 and later as district attorney. He was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Texas in 1892, ran for governor two years later, and in 1904 wrote a historical sketch of the county's first settlement. The house remains residential and in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Griffith Lumber Co. (contractor); lumberman C. S.
