It is also tied to the Morse family's mill and forge operations and to Foxboro's shift from farming to straw-goods manufacture. It is also noted to have high archaeological potential.","narrative":"Built in 1804 by mill owner Amos Morse at 77 North Street in North Foxboro, this large Federal-style house was designed as a two-family residence for his children's households. It has a two-story hipped-roof main block with a five-bay symmetrical facade and a pedimented central entrance, flanked by two 1 1/2-story gabled wings added around 1820. Inside is a center-hall, double-pile plan with original mantels, fireplaces and wide board floors. The house is considered unusually intact and rare in Foxboro and Massachusetts for its scale and its linear wings. It is also linked to the Morse family's forge, mills and hoe factory nearby, and to the town's growth into a major straw-hat manufacturing center. In 1820 a tenant opened a small straw shop in the southwestern wing. The property also has potential for historic archaeological discoveries about the family and the town's development. It remained in Morse family hands until 1983.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal (vernacular)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Rated excellent condition and occupied as a private single-family residence; the barn was recently restored.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.236801-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/5/7962/63796205/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/86000027.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86000027/3696368e2e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86000027/3696368e2e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FoxboroughMA_AmosMorseHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FoxboroughMA_AmosMorseHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63796205","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amos_Morse_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4747921"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/morse-amos-house-86000027/"}
