The 1926 History of Columbiana County called it one of the city's two outstanding office buildings. It was advertised as fireproof, a notable claim after two disastrous downtown fires around the turn of the century.","narrative":"Rising five stories at the corner of Washington Street and Broadway, this brick office building was one of the largest in downtown East Liverpool. Potters Savings and Loan built it in 1904-05 to replace its first bank building, erected in 1889. The Claude Nease Lumber Co. is listed as builder, and the architect is unknown. Its Renaissance Revival design includes a stone storefront, brick quoins and pilasters, stone keystones and beltcourses, decorative brickwork, and a cornice with modillion blocks and dentils beneath a parapet wall. The first-floor stone facing was probably added during a 1924 remodeling, which also updated interior systems. A 1926 county history named it one of the city's two outstanding office buildings. It was advertised as fireproof, a sensible claim in a downtown that had suffered two disastrous fires around 1900. The building was listed for its link to the city's commercial history and for its quality materials, craftsmanship, and three-part composition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; builder Claude Nease Lumber Co.","architectural_style":"2nd Renaissance Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Exterior condition described as good; present use commercial; interior condition unknown.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:15.008284-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/85003517.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003517/73126b1d1f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003517/73126b1d1f-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Potters_Savings_and_Loan_from_Washington.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Potters_Savings_and_Loan_from_Washington.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"01000591","name":"East Liverpool Downtown Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/east-liverpool-downtown-historic-district-01000591/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71984548","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potters_Savings_and_Loan","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7235321"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/columbiana-county/potters-savings-and-loan-85003517/"}
