It is also tied to William H. Buck, a prominent fruit grower, packer and shipper, and to the Buck family's role in Vacaville's fruit industry. Gebhard's architectural guide and a local historic survey both noted it as significant.","narrative":"This 2-1/2 story Queen Anne Victorian house at 301 Buck Avenue in Vacaville was completed in 1892 for William Henry Buck, a fruit grower, packer and shipper. Built of redwood framing and tongue-and-groove siding, it has about 9,000 square feet of floor space. Exterior features include multiple gables, a recessed porch with turned columns, Eastlake spindle and spool ornament, fish scale shingles and opalescent stained glass windows. Inside, Eastlake oak woodwork and a decorative tiled fireplace stand out. A carriage house at the rear, used until about 1935, was later converted to apartments. The house stands on part of a 147.6-acre tract the Buck family bought in 1887. Buck's family helped develop consignment rail shipping of fresh fruit to eastern markets, and Vacaville handled over a quarter of California's fresh deciduous fruit marketing by 1895. The house was listed for its architecture and for this link to the local fruit industry. Exteriors remain largely unchanged apart from 1930s additions.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"George Sharpe","architectural_style":"Queen Anne Victorian","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied as a private residence and rental apartments; the carriage house has been converted to apartments and some work was in progress at the time of the form.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:27.674455-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/85003372.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003372/c98316f123-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003372/c98316f123-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Sanfranman59","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Will_H._Buck_House,_301_Buck_Ave.,_Vacaville,_CA_5-4-2013_8-02-08_PM.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Sanfranman59</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Will_H._Buck_House,_301_Buck_Ave.,_Vacaville,_CA_5-4-2013_8-02-08_PM.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123862003","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_H._Buck_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q38251632"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/solano-county/buck-will-h-house-85003372/"}
