It is a clapboard Georgian Vernacular house with saltbox influence.","why_significant":"The form argues the house is one of a handful of Brookline houses built before 1825 that still stand. It is also a fine example of a vernacular Georgian country homestead. Its slightly old-fashioned style reflects the rural, isolated character of Brookline in the early nineteenth century.","narrative":"Built in 1820 at 15 Alberta Road in Brookline, this clapboard house is a Georgian Vernacular dwelling with saltbox influence. Thaddeus Jackson built it for his son, Thaddeus Jr., on land once belonging to William Tyng. It replaced an earlier Jackson house that, according to legend, bore the marks of Indian tomahawks in its front door. That older house belonged to Abraham Jackson, a surveyor of highways, farmer and blacksmith whose shop stood on the route to a nearby sawmill. The house probably began as two rooms divided by an entry, with the kitchen in a leanto at the south end. The saltbox shape, windows tucked under the eaves, 8/8 and 6/6 sash and a plain center doorway suggest an early date and a rural character. The rear was remodeled and a garage added in 1941. It is among the few Brookline houses from before 1825 still standing, which underlies its listing for history and architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built by Thaddeus Jackson for his son, Thaddeus Jackson Jr.","architectural_style":"Georgian Vernacular (with saltbox influence)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; a 20-by-19-foot garage was added in 1941 and the rear portion was remodeled then.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.654264-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/66/7925/63792566/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/85003295.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003295/ce7570952a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003295/ce7570952a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_ThaddeusJacksonHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_ThaddeusJacksonHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792566","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaddeus_Jackson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7708988"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/jackson-thaddeus-house-85003295/"}
