It has clapboard walls and is still residential.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house meets criterion C as a fine example of the centered-gable Italianate type. It keeps double brackets under deep eaves, bracketed window heads, a single-story polygonal bay and clapboard siding. It was also the last of four Italianate houses built on the street between 1849 and 1865.","narrative":"Built in 1864-65 for James Edmond, a Boston commercial merchant, this clapboard house at 44 Stanton Road in Brookline is a well-preserved example of the centered-gable Italianate style. Its double brackets under deep eaves, bracketed window heads and single-story polygonal bay remain intact. The full-height entry porch is considered a later addition. It was the last of four Italianate houses built on the street, then called Cypress Place, between 1849 and 1865. In 1901 it was moved back from the street to make room for a large complex of attached triple-decker dwellings, and its rear ell was probably removed at that time. Many early residents of the area worked in Boston. By 1884 the house belonged to Boston attorney Albert Lamb Lincoln, for whom nearby Lincoln Road was probably named. Its listing rests on its architectural quality and its place among the Italianate houses of Brookline.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Built by James Edmond, a Boston commercial merchant; architect information not available","architectural_style":"Italianate (centered gable type)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; the house was moved back from the street in 1901, the rear ell was removed, and a full-height entry porch was added later.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.715853-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/47/7924/63792447/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/85003289.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003289/761b112848-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003289/761b112848-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_44StantonRoad.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_44StantonRoad.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792447","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_44_Stanton_Road","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914327"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/house-at-44-stanton-road-85003289/"}
