It is one of a small number of houses surviving from the 1843 Linden Place residential subdivision planned by Thomas Aspinwall Davis. It is also a rare local example of the Greek Revival style.","narrative":"Built in 1843-1844, this clapboard house at 19 Linden Street in Brookline is a Greek Revival residence that has kept its original character. Its pedimented gable end faces the street, and the porch columns and frieze, main cornice and frieze, pilastered cornerboards and front doorway all reflect the style. A barn stands at the rear of the lot. It was built for John Turner, a partner in a Boston drygoods firm on Federal Street, who commuted to the city from Brookline before the railroad arrived in the late 1840s. The land belonged to the Davis farm and was subdivided into residential lots in 1843 as the Linden Place development, planned by Thomas Aspinwall Davis. Few houses from that subdivision survive amid modern infill. The house is considered the finest and most intact of the three Greek Revival houses on Linden Street, and it is a rare local example of the style. It remains in residential use with no major alterations.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built for John Turner, a Boston drygoods merchant","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; no major alterations; not moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.96503-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/76/7925/63792576/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/85003284.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003284/90435e0b10-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003284/90435e0b10-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_HouseAt19LindenStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_HouseAt19LindenStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792576","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_19_Linden_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914052"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/house-at-19-linden-street-85003284/"}
