It survives from the period when Brookline was dominated by agriculture and was the homestead of a socially and civically active family. It is also a rare vernacular example of the Federal style in Brookline.","narrative":"Built around 1806 at 808 Washington Street in Brookline, this clapboard house is an end-gabled, five-bay example of vernacular Federal architecture. It was first owned by Deacon Timothy Corey, who with his brother Elijah helped found the Baptist Church in Brookline. The brothers inherited farmland acquired by their father, Timothy, who moved from Weston to Brookline in the early 1760s. The Corey farm was known for its apple orchards and also sent produce to Boston markets. Miss Abie Corey, the deacon's daughter and the last of the family to live here, died in 1919 at age 93. She willed the house to All Saints Church. Around 1920 a porch was added across the front and bay windows were added. The property is considered one of the few vernacular Federal-style buildings in Brookline. It was listed for its link to the town's agricultural past, its prominent family and its architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Present use is a single-family residence; the form says the property has been carefully preserved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.490007-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/74/7924/63792474/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/85003255.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003255/1769a3bea0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85003255/1769a3bea0-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_TimothyCoreyHouseNumberOne.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BrooklineMA_TimothyCoreyHouseNumberOne.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792474","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Corey_House_No._1","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7807120"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/corey-timothy-house-no-1-85003255/"}
