Its circa 1805 house is a representative late settlement period dwelling with a five-bay center-hall plan and the only example of its type in Dix Hills. The surviving barns, corncrib, sheds and well show agricultural use continuing into the early twentieth century in an intact rural setting.","narrative":"Seaman Farm occupies sixteen acres along Carll's Straight Path, one of the oldest roads in the Dix Hills section of Huntington. The core is a one-and-one-half-story shingled farmhouse built circa 1805, with a saltbox profile, a five-bay center-hall facade, a pilastered entrance with sidelights, and interior end chimneys. Around a large natural pond stand an early nineteenth-century barn made of two joined vertical-board barns, an early twentieth-century clapboard barn, a board-and-batten barn, a T-shaped corncrib, several sheds and a stone well with a gabled canopy. All of these outbuildings are counted as contributing features. The property matters because few relatively unaltered groups of nineteenth-century farm buildings survive in heavily developed Huntington. Its house is the only five-bay center-hall dwelling of its type in Dix Hills, and the intact rural setting illustrates the town's agricultural tradition into the early twentieth century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Saltbox-profile farmhouse of the late settlement period","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as in excellent condition with original site and no known threats; the main dwelling is still used as a residence and the exterior is not visible from the public road.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:46.042643-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/85002575.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314841","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaman_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7440691"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/suffolk-county/seaman-farm-85002575/"}
