The west wing dates to about 1770 and the main house and east wing to about 1830; it was built by Michael Remp.","why_significant":"The house is a distinctive example of settlement-period architecture in Huntington, and its 1830 additions use restrained, locally interpreted Greek Revival details. It is also one of the few surviving intact farmsteads in the town, keeping 32 acres of its original land and several farm outbuildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.","narrative":"Set at the top of a large hill on Godfrey Lane in Greenlawn, this farmhouse anchors a 32-acre farm that is the remaining portion of a larger original holding. The oldest part is the west wing, built about 1770 by Michael Remp. It is a one-and-one-half-story frame building with a center entrance and nine-over-six windows. About 1830 a main house and east wing were added, bringing restrained Greek Revival details such as frieze windows and a molded entrance surround with sidelights and slender fluted pilasters. Downhill to the east stand three contributing barns, two from the mid-nineteenth century and one from the early twentieth, along with two mid-twentieth-century sheds that do not contribute. The property matters as a rare surviving intact farmstead in Huntington, and as an example of an eighteenth-century house greatly enlarged in the early nineteenth century in the local building tradition. Together the house, land and barns recall the town's early agricultural settlement.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Built by Michael Remp; architect unknown","architectural_style":"Settlement period local building tradition with modified Greek Revival details","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed in good condition and still used as a residence; the form notes possible threats from zoning and developers.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:44.52935-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/85002570.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85002570/cdefc818a3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85002570/cdefc818a3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"DanTD","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Remp_House_Down_Godfrey_Lane,_Greenlawn,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">DanTD</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Remp_House_Down_Godfrey_Lane,_Greenlawn,_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314839","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Remp_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6833813"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/suffolk-county/remp-michael-house-85002570/"}
