Weeks. A circa 1900 barn stands at the rear of the property.","why_significant":"The house is presented as a fine example of mid-nineteenth century domestic architecture in the town of Huntington. It is one of the few Second Empire style residences in the town, with a mansard roof, bracketed cornice, double-door entrance and a porch with scrollsawn columns. It also keeps the simple form and massing of Huntington's local building tradition.","narrative":"Set on a half-acre wooded lot along quiet Mill Lane in Huntington, this two and one-half story clapboard house dates to about 1860 and was probably built for Charles M. Weeks. Its mansard roof is covered in decorative scallop shingles and carries gabled dormers and a cornice with scrollsawn brackets and drop pendants. A flat-roofed porch runs the length of the facade, with lattice-like columns and curved corner braces. A two-story shed-roofed kitchen wing was added to the rear about 1915, and a garage wing joined by a breezeway followed in the 1970s. Inside, the main house remains virtually unaltered, with a turned-post staircase, elaborate moldings and decorative mantels. A circa 1900 board-sheathed barn behind the house contributes to the setting. The property is valued as one of the few Second Empire residences in the town and as a local interpretation of that style that keeps Huntington's simple traditional form.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; builder probably for Charles M.
