It has shingle and clapboard walls, a sweeping gable roof with broad eaves on Stick style brackets, and a three-story tent-roofed tower at the southeast corner. A wrap-around verandah with porte-cochère carries scrollsawn and lattice-like supports. The house blends Shingle, Stick and Queen Anne details and survives virtually unaltered, making it one of the best picturesque dwellings of its period in Huntington. It also reflects the Burr family, early Commack settlers who gained prominence as horse trainers and breeders. Carll Burr, Jr. continued the family business and served in the state assembly and later as state senator. His family lived here only briefly before moving to the Hubbs-Burr House. A one-story shingle shed from about 1895 stands at the rear and contributes to the setting.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; builder unknown (built for Carll Burr, Jr.)","architectural_style":"Late nineteenth century picturesque eclectic (Shingle, Stick and Queen Anne elements)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a residence; condition rated good, with no known threats.
