It sits on a hilltop overlooking Millens Bay and the St. Lawrence River.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it a remarkably intact, outstanding example of a modest late nineteenth-century vernacular frame church in Cape Vincent. It is also one of few remaining nineteenth-century circuit churches in the region. It reflects the growth of the rural farm population and the cooperation of Methodist and Episcopal congregations.","narrative":"Built in 1869 on a hilltop above Millens Bay, this small wood-frame church overlooks the St. Lawrence River and is the most prominent building in the hamlet. It is one story high and four bays long, with white clapboard siding, a steeply pitched gable roof and a front steeple with four small corner spires around a central six-sided spire. Round-headed stained-glass windows in blue and purple line the sides. Inside, the original pine floor, pews, wainscoting, cove ceiling, wood stove, Packard oak organ and oil lamp fixtures remain in use. The church has never been electrified, so no wires or poles surround it. Methodist and Episcopal congregations shared the costs of building it and held services on alternate Sundays, with circuit-riding clergy serving it. It is listed as a remarkably intact vernacular church and one of few surviving nineteenth-century circuit churches in the region. It still hosts summer services and weddings.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect and builder unknown","architectural_style":"Vernacular frame religious building","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition is stated as good, and the building is still used for religious services and weddings in summer.
