Sacket.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it a remarkably intact, outstanding example of high-style Colonial Revival architecture and the best example of that style in Cape Vincent. It reflects the long-established wealth and prominence of the Sacket family. Its boathouse and dock also reflect the importance of recreational use of the river from the late nineteenth century onward.","narrative":"Built about 1900 on the St. Lawrence River waterfront in Cape Vincent, this one and one-half story house was the work of Cornelius T. Sacket, son of General Sacket. It is a Colonial Revival residence with a gambrel roof, clapboard siding, curved side bays, bracketed cornices and a front porch with five fluted Ionic columns. A central dormer has a triple window and a pediment with a fanlight. A side wing, matching the main block, was added shortly afterward and before 1935. Inside, the foyer has an open stairway with a mahogany railing and a recessed coal stove framed by small Ionic columns. The grounds include an early twentieth-century boathouse, tool house, stone-filled timber dock and a formal sunken garden with elm trees. The house is considered the best example of Colonial Revival design in Cape Vincent and shows the wealth of the Sacket family and the river's recreational role. The family sold it in 1935, and it remains a residence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Remains a residence; condition described as excellent and the interior and exterior as exceptionally intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:46.113656-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/85002473.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85002473/bfe17a5d9a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85002473/bfe17a5d9a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ MD","credit_html":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ MD, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CORNELIUS_SACKETT_HOUSE.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313132","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornelius_Sacket_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5171447"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/jefferson-county/sacket-cornelius-house-85002473/"}
