The lot has been a busy commercial location since the early 1880s. The property is listed under architecture and commerce.","narrative":"At the corner of East 11th and Waller streets in Austin, a two-story brick residence is joined to a one-story brick commercial building, a combination dating to about 1910. The house has a screened double gallery with wooden columns carrying a simple scroll design, shuttered windows with rusticated limestone sills and lintels, and a hipped wood-shingle roof. The store wing turns the corner with a doorway set in a 45-degree wall, and a canopied porch wraps around from Waller Street along East 11th. San Antonio-style paneled doors with shutters mark the north facade. The lot has hosted commerce since the early 1880s, when Salvatore Bailetti ran a residence, grocery and saloon nearby. Carl Haehnel, of a well-known Austin mercantile family, became involved with the property in the late 1890s and ran a grocery there by 1900. The present building probably replaced his frame structure and is considered the best Austin example of a corner business with an attached residence. It remains unaltered and in commercial use.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":[],"status_note":"Described as in excellent physical condition and unaltered, with a current commercial use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:20.896319-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/40/9703/40970340/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/85002295.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85002295/b26c8f6604-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85002295/b26c8f6604-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 4.0","author":"Larry D.
