It holds early 20th-century dwellings dating from 1892 to 1935.","why_significant":"The district is significant for architecture, community planning and development, and local history. It is the only intact grouping of historic houses in Clermont and shows how the town grew along its main streets and the railroad. Its homes were owned by local farmers and merchants who helped develop the town.","narrative":"North of the town center of Clermont, Georgia, a group of early 20th-century houses lines Main and Railroad Streets and neighboring Harris and Martin Streets. The district covers about 19 acres and includes Victorian Eclectic, Georgian Revival, Neoclassical and Bungalow/Craftsman homes, along with simple vernacular cottages. Most are one- or two-story wood-framed buildings with front porches, roof dormers, and doors with sidelights and transom lights. Larger examples include the Haynes Residence, the Roark House and the Frank Rogers House. The neighborhood grew after the Gainesville and Northwestern Railroad was built in the early 1900s, and part of the rail line ran along present-day Railroad Street. Clermont was chartered in 1913 and became a railroad junction. Main Street curves while Railroad Street runs straight. Many early homeowners were farmers and local merchants, reflecting the town's role as a service center for surrounding farms. It is the only intact grouping of historic houses in Clermont.","period_of_significance":"1892-1935","architect_builder":"Multiple","architectural_style":"Victorian Eclectic, Georgian Revival, Neoclassical, Bungalow/Craftsman, and vernacular cottages","criteria":[],"status_note":"Houses are occupied private residences; condition is listed as good and altered.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.695612-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/85001970.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93208568","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clermont_Residential_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q34928466"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/hall-county/clermont-residential-historic-district-85001970/"}
