Main Street in Mechanicsburg, Champaign County, Ohio, built around 1893 by Dr. Oram Ninchelser and later used as an Odd Fellows lodge.","why_significant":"The nomination cites Criteria B and C. It was built by and was the home of Dr. Oram Ninchelser, a wealthy physician and prominent local citizen, for nearly 40 years. Architecturally it is one of the largest and most impressive residences in Mechanicsburg and an excellent example of late 19th century eclectic design.","narrative":"Built around 1893 at 28 North Main Street in Mechanicsburg, this brick Queen Anne house was intended as a showplace by Dr. Oram Ninchelser, a wealthy physician, for his bride from New York City. She left him a few years after its completion, but he remained in the house until 1931, when it was sold to the Odd Fellows lodge, which has used it ever since. The 2 1/2-story building rests on a stone foundation and has a slate hip roof with fishscale and rectangular slates. Round-arched windows with contrasting stone surrounds, a Palladian window above the entrance, stained glass, a recessed entrance and a projecting bay with a parapet roofline give it a varied, irregular profile. The only noted exterior alteration is metal covering over the cornice. It was recognized as one of the town's largest and most impressive residences and as a fine example of late 19th century eclectic architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Used as a lodge by the Odd Fellows (IOOF) since 1931; described as in deteriorated or fair condition, with the cornice covered in metal and other original features intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:15.124009-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/85001889.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001889/8a19ac2960-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001889/8a19ac2960-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dr._Nincehelser_House,_blue_sky.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dr._Nincehelser_House,_blue_sky.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71984538","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oram_Nincehelser_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7099424"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/champaign-county/ninchelser-dr-house-85001889/"}
