Main Street in Mechanicsburg, Champaign County, Ohio, built between 1895 and 1897 for farmer Jeff Kimball.","why_significant":"The house is argued to be significant under Criteria A and C. It is one of the finest remaining examples of Queen Anne architecture in Mechanicsburg. It is also tied to the village's agricultural history, since wealthy farmers built some of its finest homes in the late 19th century.","narrative":"Brick and slate give this two-and-a-half-story house at 115 N. Main Street in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, an imposing presence. Jeff Kimball, a wealthy farmer, built it between 1895 and 1897, and it stayed in the Kimball family until 1943. The house is a strong example of Queen Anne design, with irregular massing, projecting bays, stone trim around the windows, basketweave brickwork in the gable, a squat Palladian window, stained and beveled glass, a decorative front porch and ornamental iron roof cresting. An altered Shingle Style carriage house stands at the rear. The house sits along N. Main Street, where the village's most architecturally notable homes were built. It was listed for two reasons: its architecture, and its link to the agricultural economy that allowed local farmers to build some of Mechanicsburg's finest residences in the late nineteenth century. It remains a residence in very good exterior condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Used as a residence; exterior condition described as very good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.731836-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/85001884.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001884/6dd1d323aa-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001884/6dd1d323aa-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jeff_Kimball_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jeff_Kimball_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71984510","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Kimball_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6174237"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/champaign-county/kimball-house-85001884/"}
