Its builder, Albert Winn, was a prominent local figure. The site was earlier occupied by Captain George Cooke's house, linked to the first water mill privilege in Cambridge.","narrative":"Winn Farm is a five-bay Federal-style house at 57 Summer Street in Arlington, Massachusetts, dating from about 1820. Shingle-clad and sitting on a low rise, it is framed by a cut-stone retaining wall, with granite pillars marking steps cut into the slope. A shed stands nearby, and the house has had no major alterations. It is the only example of its type in this section of Northwest Arlington, an area that did not fully develop until the early twentieth century. Albert Winn built and owned the house. He served as president of the Arlington Savings Bank, as a selectman, as a state legislator and as Town Assessor. The property occupies the former site of Captain George Cooke's house. In 1637 Cooke received the first water mill privilege in Cambridge along with twenty acres, which helped draw settlement to the northwest precinct later known as West Cambridge and Arlington. The house was listed for its Federal-period architecture and its retained integrity.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Albert Winn (builder and owner); architect unknown","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; the form reports no major alterations and says the property has integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.473681-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/23/7907/63790723/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/85001051.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001051/f56fb2b3bd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001051/f56fb2b3bd-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Winn_Farm,_ArlingtonMA_-_IMG_2853.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Winn_Farm,_ArlingtonMA_-_IMG_2853.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790723","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winn_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8025523"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/winn-farm-85001051/"}
