It also reflects Arlington's early suburbanization. It retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling and association.","narrative":"Set in a thickly settled neighborhood in Arlington, Massachusetts, 13 Winter Street is a mid 19th century clapboard house built in the Greek Revival style. Alterations and additions, including fire escapes, were made around 1923, but the house keeps much of its original detailing, such as a colonnaded porch on the front and side and full-length 6/9 windows. A 19th century carriage house remains at the rear, and the silver maple and copper beech trees in the front yard, probably planted when the house was built, are counted among the town's finest old trees. The land was part of a five-lot parcel assembled by John P. Squire, a Boston trader, between 1847 and 1849. He built houses on the lots, probably without living in them, and sold the parcel to William and Nancie Kimball by 1864. The house is listed for its well-preserved Greek Revival character and as a reflection of Arlington's early suburban growth.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; altered ca. 1923 with additions and fire escapes.
