Its steep roof, front-facing gable, contrasting clapboard and scalloped shingle surfaces, and recessed corner porch with turned spindles are typical of the style. It also dates from the first phase of development of Bartlett Avenue in the 1890s.","narrative":"Set among trees in the foothills of Arlington Heights, this house at 104 Bartlett Avenue was built around 1890 to 1895 and remains a residence. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of the pure Queen Anne style in Arlington. The steeply pitched roof has a front-facing gable, and the walls combine smooth dark clapboards on the first story with lighter bevelled shingles laid in a scallop pattern on the second. A recessed corner entrance porch features turned spindles, spool-work transoms and curving brackets. The mix of proportions and materials gives the house an exuberance that many neighboring buildings lack. The lot was once part of L. P. Bartlett's estate, and the house went up during the first phase of Bartlett Avenue's development. It appears as Cushman on an 1898 atlas, and by 1923 it belonged to Ellen Parson. It was listed for its architectural quality and its retained integrity, with no major alterations recorded.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential, with no major alterations and no outbuildings recorded; the house has not been moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.145121-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/44/7911/63791144/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/85001027.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001027/e48852777f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85001027/e48852777f-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Daderot","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cushman_House,_ArlingtonMA_-_IMG_2814.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Daderot</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cushman_House,_ArlingtonMA_-_IMG_2814.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791144","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cushman_House_(Arlington,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5196216"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/cushman-house-85001027/"}
