It is also an example of simple Illinois vernacular Greek Revival architecture with an unaltered facade. Interior features such as the beehive oven, working fireplace complex with original crane, indoor cistern and five eyebrow windows are now rare among Batavia houses of this date.","narrative":"Built in 1843 at the corner of Prairie and Wilson streets in Batavia, Illinois, this two-story frame house was the home of Judge Isaac Wilson, who came from Batavia, New York, in 1835. Wilson had served in the New York legislature and in Congress before settling here. He was given the honor of naming the town in 1840 and became its first postmaster in 1841. A street and several subdivisions bear his name or his heirs' names. Architecturally, the house is a simple Illinois vernacular Greek Revival building made of local woods, with walnut posts and beams, six-panel doors, raised panels beneath the parlor windows, an indoor cistern, and a fireplace complex with crane, beehive oven and ash pit. Its five eyebrow windows retain original glass. The facade is largely unchanged apart from replacement 2/2 window sashes and a woodshed door converted to an entry in 1882. Few comparable early houses in Batavia keep these features.","period_of_significance":"1843-1848","architect_builder":"Judge Isaac Wilson","architectural_style":"Illinois vernacular Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied as a private residence. The form notes a new cedar roof, plumbing, wiring, heating and insulation, with some restoration of the west and south overhang still needed.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:35.386526-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/88/8931/28893188/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/85000978.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85000978/c27be91560-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/85000978/c27be91560-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08 at en.wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IsaacWilsonHouse.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08 at en.wikipedia</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IsaacWilsonHouse.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28893188","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Isaac_Wilson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6302553"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/kane-county/wilson-judge-isaac-house-85000978/"}
