It holds an intact group of early 20th-century middle and upper-middle class houses and apartment buildings, mostly Bungalows, that show local interpretations of national styles. It is also a planned curvilinear neighborhood on the edge of town with naturalistic landscaping.","narrative":"Milledge Circle Historic District is a residential neighborhood of about 22 acres southwest of downtown Athens and the University of Georgia campus. It grew out of Milledge Park, a planned subdivision laid out in 1913 and developed by the Georgia Development Company. Streets follow a curving pattern rather than a grid, with small lots, sidewalks, lawns, hedgerows and mature oak, magnolia and pine trees. Most houses are modest one- or two-story brick buildings from the 1910s to the 1930s, including Bungalows, American Foursquares and simple Neoclassical or Colonial Revival designs. Architect E. L. Griggs designed several early homes, and Michael Frank Costa built some of them. Three 1920s apartment buildings by the Caskey Construction Company stand near Five Points. The district was listed for its architecture, its planning as an edge-of-town subdivision, its naturalistic landscaping, and its link to Athens doctors, lawyers, judges, business executives and professors who lived there.","period_of_significance":"1910s - 1930s","architect_builder":"Georgia Development Company, and others (E.
