It is also one of the best preserved Neocolonial central-auditorium-plan schools in the county, and with its agriculture building it remains an example of a high school complex.","narrative":"North River High School, on Route 42 near Moscow in Augusta County, was built in 1930 as the county's first consolidated high school. Students in grades eight through twelve came from Spring Hill, Parnassus, Towers, and Centerville, which left older consolidated schools to serve only elementary grades. The building follows State plan #454 with a central auditorium and projecting classroom wings. Its Colonial Revival references include Flemish bond brick veneer, a steeply pitched roof, fanlight windows in the wing gables, and a front portico. G. G. Shaver, head of the county school maintenance department, and Kellis Bibb supervised construction. Additions followed in 1942 and 1950, including a cafeteria, home economics room, and athletic facilities. A detached brick agriculture shop completes the high school complex. The school became a junior high after 1962 and an elementary school in 1968-69, and it remains in use. It is considered the best preserved of the county's late-1920s brick central-auditorium schools with Colonial styling.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"G. G.
