Its multiple gablets with decorative bargeboards, slender tracery and the turned spindlework of the front porch distinguish it from other buildings on Park Avenue and in the city.","narrative":"This is a 2 1/2-story wood-frame house on Park Avenue West in Mansfield, Ohio, dated to about 1885 and built in the Queen Anne style. It has an irregular plan, windows of varied sizes and shapes, and decorative bargeboards on the front and side gables. The front porch is ornate, with turned baluster supports, railings and a small central pediment over the entry. A projecting gable on the west side is semi-octagonal on the first floor and rectangular above. Inside, an oak stairway with a turned baluster railing rises in three flights, and the woodwork is elaborately finished. Frank A. Gilbert was listed as owner in 1895, and W. C. Hedges lived there in 1901. The house was renovated in 1979-1980, when a rooming house became three apartments, with a new Supraslate roof and a historic paint scheme. A two-story carriage barn at the rear remains unimproved and deteriorating. The house was listed as a well-preserved Queen Anne example that stands out on Park Avenue and in the city.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne (one inventory sheet reads Queen Anne - Eastlake)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Renovated 1979-1980 from a rooming house into three apartments; exterior in good condition.
