It also contains a range of styles from Greek Revival to Jacobethan Revival, including regionally rare cast-iron balcony and Gothic Revival commercial architecture.","narrative":"Three contiguous blocks along Conant and Wayne Streets in Maumee, Ohio, make up this commercial district of 29 buildings, with a few outlying structures on Wayne and Dudley Streets. Most are brick and two stories tall, with similar setbacks. Italianate buildings are the largest group, thirteen in all, followed by six in the Commercial style. Other styles include Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, Romanesque and Jacobethan Revival. Notable examples include a Queen Anne corner building with oriel bays and half-timbering, the Henfling Block with its tin cornice, a 1902 Gothic Revival commercial block, and a 1929 bank designed by Perrysburg architect George Rheinfrank. A cast-iron balcony at 317-319 Conant is cited as regionally rare. The district is considered significant as the last historic commercial center of Maumee, a settlement that grew from a trading post and river shipping center in the early 1800s. Only three buildings have been heavily re-sided, and their height and scale remain consistent with their neighbors.","period_of_significance":"1850's-1930's","architect_builder":"Multiple","architectural_style":"Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, Romanesque, Commercial, false-front, Colonial and Jacobethan Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Marked occupied and private; condition listed as excellent to good, with some altered buildings.
