Morrow and enlarged and stuccoed in 1922.","why_significant":"The house blends Italianate architecture with 1920s Spanish-influenced styling and is described as the best example of Spanish Colonial Revival influence in Hillsboro. It is also tied to three prominent local families, the Morrows, Overmans and Fairleys, whose members were active in business, banking and community life.","narrative":"Three blocks north of downtown Hillsboro, a large brick house stands on a shaded corner lot at North High and Willow Streets. William A. Morrow, a prominent dry goods merchant, built it in 1873 in the Italianate style, with a hipped roof, bracketed cornice, bargeboard trim and tall arched windows. In 1922 the house was stuccoed, given a raised porch with semi-elliptical arches, and extended at the rear. It was among the first houses in Hillsboro to be stuccoed, and it is described as the town's best example of 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival influence. Inside, the carved stairway, stone fireplaces, original woodwork, doorknobs, locks and lighting fixtures survive. C.M. Overman bought the house in 1881, and Richard and Mary Fairley acquired it in 1894. The Fairley family's hardware and banking interests and civic leadership, along with the house's two architectural phases, form the basis for its recognition.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899, 1900- (specific dates 1873, 1922)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate with 1920s transitional/Spanish Colonial Revival influence","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Listed as occupied, in use as a private residence; condition marked excellent, with a largely unaltered interior.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.83658-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/84003729.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003729/8d332fe6c3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003729/8d332fe6c3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Aesopposea","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morrow-Overman-Fairley_House,_Hillsboro,_Ohio.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Aesopposea</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morrow-Overman-Fairley_House,_Hillsboro,_Ohio.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71989343","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138362784"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/highland-county/morrow-overman-fairley-house-84003729/"}
