North Bend Road in Finneytown, Springfield Township, just outside Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. It now houses the Baroque Violin Shop.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is one of the few remaining vestiges of Springfield Township's mid-nineteenth-century rural character. Its Federal style is fairly rare in the township, especially outside the early villages. Its recent rehabilitation also makes it one of the best preserved examples in the unincorporated areas.","narrative":"Built around 1825 and later home to a violin shop, this two-and-a-half-story Federal style brick house sits along a busy four-lane road in Finneytown, just outside Cincinnati. Tax records indicate Daniel Smith built it, and farmer David Jessup lived there from the 1830s until the late 1860s. The house has a Flemish bond front facade, six-over-six windows with radiating voussoirs, and a simple, graceful interior stairway in a side hall. Several rear additions date from the mid-to-late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but most original Federal elements survive inside and out. The house matters because Springfield Township was largely rural until the 1930s, and later suburban and commercial growth erased many mid-nineteenth-century buildings. Few Federal style houses remain in the township's unincorporated areas, and its recent rehabilitation, including new cedar shingles on the roof, leaves it among the best preserved.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Occupied, in excellent condition and recently rehabilitated; it houses a commercial violin shop.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.172929-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/84003717.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003717/77255db336-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003717/77255db336-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Chase Eckert","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Smith-JessupHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Chase Eckert</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Smith-JessupHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988881","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith%E2%80%93Jessup_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7544915"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/smith-jessup-house-84003717/"}
