It is also one of the few remaining major buildings by the firm Stribling and Lum. Its setback from North High Street creates a visual break in the street's commercial facade.","narrative":"York Lodge No. 563, known as York Temple, is a Masonic lodge at 1276 North High Street in Columbus. Construction began on May 23, 1914, and finished in October 1915. The two-and-a-half-story building is rusticated brick trimmed in stone, set on a stone base, and mixes elements from several styles. Notable features include segmental-arched first-floor windows with stained glass, round-arched second-floor openings, stone beltcourses and a bracketed cornice carrying the lodge name. A parapet wall was removed for safety reasons. Inside are a ballroom, a library, a meeting room and a Lodge room with decorated skylights, a stage and a balcony. It was designed by Stribling & Lum, partners from 1902 to 1933, and is one of the few major surviving buildings by the firm. It was listed for its early twentieth century eclectic design, Italian Renaissance details, stained glass and preserved interiors. Set back from the street, it also breaks up the commercial frontage of North High Street.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"Stribling & Lum","architectural_style":"Eclectic design combining elements from different styles, with Italian Renaissance elements","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Occupied, in excellent condition; exterior largely unaltered apart from a removed parapet wall, and the interior maintained much in its original condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.261367-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/84003691.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003691/0d4f5b92f6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003691/0d4f5b92f6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"SassyWizard","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:York_Lodge_No-_563_2012-10-13_11-02-58.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">SassyWizard</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:York_Lodge_No-_563_2012-10-13_11-02-58.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988326","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/York_Lodge_No._563","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8055493"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/york-lodge-no-563-84003691/"}
